We had such an awesome day yesterday! The weather was perfect. Our little ones had a blast playing in the playground. We even dodged the afternoon showers. Most importantly, the students all had fun learning about safety and riding the tricycles around the course.
I want to thank ALL the volunteers that came out on such a beautiful day! We had such a blast bopping around the parking lot.
Thanks to Mrs. Whitson, for asking her police officer friends for giving the PTA kids (and me!) a ride in the police cars. We got to go around the block with the lights on and the sirens blaring!! Mrs. Whitson's students earned their rides for getting over 4,000 points doing Reading Counts!! Her students set their goals and achieved them. What an awesome teacher!
On a minor note, I have such bad sunburn on my face! It hurts to smile... Jill, are you as badly sunburned as I am??
Safety Town is a El Paso Council PTA run event. We rent the trailer for a small fee (mostly to pay for the coloring books). We unpack the tricycles, buildings and traffic signs. We put the town together and taught all the students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade about the rules of the road both as walkers and as drivers of cars. Grades 2nd and 3rd watched the video only as the tricycles were really small. All students K-3 got coloring books. We will try to post pictures soon.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us! If you want help with Safety Town next year, please contact Kimberly Van Diepen, our new Volunteer Coordinator. kimberly@odysseypta.org or 637-4933.
